Vernal Pools: The Coral Reef of the Forest. How would you like to learn about Newaygo County's own "coral reef" of the forest? Vernal Pools are often called the forest version of a coral reef. They are the home of at least 4 indicator species that cannot survive if vernal pools didn't exist. The sad thing, though, is not much is known about these ephemeral ecosystems that only last 2-3 months. Also, they are not protected wetland areas under current laws and so are often filled in, sprayed or destroyed through human activity. Come learn about these special places just before the real action takes off in them this spring, and learn how you can be a part of scientific research and help protect these little spring oases. This event is for all ages. Bring the whole family! Event begins at 7:00 p.m.
