Circulation
- 153,147 items were checked out during the year.
- Young Adult circulation increased by 48% from the 2003/2004
figures.
Collections
- The library added over 4,200 items to its collection.
- At the end of 2005, library holdings totaled over 75,000.
- The library sends a monthly Hot Titles e-mail alert to 94
patrons.
- DVDs were added as a new format. Classic films and children's
features have been very popular.
Internet
and Computers
- Children's game computers were used 4,010 times during 2005.
- Internet workstations were used a total of 12,382 times.
- The library added wireless access to the Internet during 2005.
- Our library website had 46,529 visits.
- 140 people attended computer training classes during the year.
Teen
Programs
Several programs for teens were held during 2005. One of the
most popular was the summer reading program. 59 teens signed up
to Joust Read. The top five teens read over 10,000 pages and one
teen read over 20,000 pages during the summer. |

The library serves over 13,400 people in eight different
townships.
Total circulation for 2005 was 153,147 items. That is 11.4
items per person in the library district.
The library subscribes to 145 magazines and 10 newspapers
The library received over $10,000 from the Friends of the
Library in 2005.
Over 500 babies (and their parents) received "Catch 'em
in the Cradle" gift packets.
In addition to library programs, over 8,000 people from area
non-profits and businesses used our meeting rooms.
12,217 reference questions were answered this year. That is
almost one question for each person in the library.
Access to 3.8 million items is available through
interlibrary loans. During 2005, Fremont patrons borrowed
27,167 items from other libraries. |
Writers Live
@ the Library
Ten different authors come to the Fremont Area District Library to talk
about their work. Featured authors spoke on everything from gardening
and poetry to Native American folklore and the haunted places of
Michigan. 375 people attended these popular programs.
Book
Discussions
Area patrons also participated in the library's book discussions and read
titles such as An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser; Enslaved by Ducks by
Bob Tarte; and Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury.
Children's
Programs
Preschool Story Time was held 48 times with 1,472 children attending.
Summer Reading had 570 children sign up and 2,491 attendees at the
various programs.
356 children went on the library's first Animal Safari in the Spring.
Local History
Room
Interest in genealogy and local history is growing in our area.
Approximately 2,241 people visited the Local History Room in 2005.
Addition items were added to the print collection bringing the total
items to approximately 1,640.
Digitization of library owned and locally owned photos and documents
allows access while preserving the originals for future research.
Computers and Internet access is transforming genealogy and local history
research. Local history room computers were used over 700 times.
Indexes to local obituaries, births, anniversaries, marriages, and
military records are kept up-to-date and available through the library's
website.
